What you should know about Haircare N4-N6

Haircare specialist work with a variety of clients to improve their look, style or health of their hair.  They perform a variety of tasks, including cutting, colouring and applying hair care treatments. Each N-Level in Haircare N4-N6 takes a minimum of 6 months (Semester) to complete. A student in the possession of Grade12 or equivalent is admitted into N4. One can proceed to the next level only when the previous level has been successfully completed with minimum of 4 subjects. On successful completion of each level the candidate will be issued with a National Certificate by The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Quality assured by The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO). It is recommended that students enrolling on the National N4 Certificate programme complete the N5 and N6 as well as the 18-month or 2000 hours of suitable workplace experiential training in order to qualify for the National Diploma. 

The NATED Business/General Studies N4-N6 qualification is designed to provide the theoretical component in order for you to attain a National Diploma in Haircare. The practical component comprises of a minimum of 18 months (2000 national working hours) relevant work experience.

The Department of Higher Education will issue you with a National Certificate once you have passed each level with a minimum of 4 subjects eg. N4, N5, N6.

Grade 11 or 12 or equivalent qualification
